Launching New Dimensions of Service


Since 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has implemented programs of service impacting countless lives.
The 2014-2018 International Program will focus on Launching New Dimensions of Service. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, through its 265,000 members and 986 chapters, will have an opportunity to address community needs with programs in five target areas:
1. Educational Enrichment
2. Health Promotion
3. Family Strengthening
4. Environmental Ownership
5. Global Impact

In the 2014 calendar year, Epsilon Beta totaled over 10,000 hours of community service by engaging in service efforts helping not only the University, but also Lafayette and surrounding communities.

Chapter Facts

Through the efforts of the Eta Chi Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Epsilon Beta was charted on Saturday, December 16th, 1967, on the campus of the University of Southwestern Louisiana—now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette
• 5 Star Chapter—2014
• New Greek Woman of the Year, 2014—Gabrielle Semien
• Fourteen chapter members recognized at 2015 Regional Conference for High Academic Excellence
• The only two black, female Student Government Association Presidents have both been members of Epsilon Beta

Organization Facts

Together with eight other coeds at the mecca for Negro education, Howard University, Ethel Hedgeman crafted a design that not only fostered interaction, stimulation, and ethical growth among members; but also provided hope for the masses.  From the core group of nine at Howard, AKA has grown into a force of more than 280,000 collegiate members and alumnae.
